Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi better known as Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in porbandar, Gujarat, he was the son of Karamchand Gandhi, Diwan of Porbandar. His mother’s name is putlibai, a pious lady. Gandhiji was married to Kasturba Gandhi at the age of thirteen. gandhiji and kasturiba had four children. He was an average student who found English and Mathematics hard and impossible to understand. At the age of 19 he went to London to study For higher education, Gandhiji was sent to England where he studied law. He returned to India in 1891 to practice law. He always supported the poor and truthful clients. He could not find work that would give better life for him and his family.

When Gandhi Ji started his practice as a barrister in South Africa, In South Africa to deal with the cases of a famous marachant Abdula Seth. In south Africa he faced many hurdles. He found that the white men were ill treating the dark Indians. However he himself tortured and insulted by the white often. One day, he was travelling in a first class compartment a train. He had booked a ticket for him. Still he was evented and punished out of the compartment by the white men.

M. K.Gandhi was not born great. He was an ordinary child like many of us. In the beginning he acted like a common child. He told lies only once in his life. He corrected his bad habits very soon. He smoked cigarette only once. He took meat with his friend only once. All these things were done due to the influence of bad company in his childhood. One day he confessed all these bad deeds before his father and vowed not to repeat them.

When he accomplished to claim his rights as a British subject Gandhi was harmed. He observed that all Indian people suffered badly by British Government. He started Satyagraha -devotion to the truth. Satyagraha established with the principles of truth, nonviolence and courage. Gandhi was arrested so many times by the British for his activities in India and South Africa. In 1915, Gandhi returned to India .At last in 19 47 Gandhi brought the independence for India from Britain. Gandhi also known as mahatma, bapu, father of nation, and his birthday on 2nd October is celebrates as Gandhi Jayanti, a notional holiday and worldwide as the International Day of Non-Violence.
